Jouzour Foundation Simon Boulos (Jouzour FSB) is a charitable organisation registered under number 1462314 of the Lebanese commercial register, license 135/AD. It was founded in 2006 to contribute to the humanitarian relief effort in Northern Lebanon following the July war that caused mass displacement of people into communities ill-equipped to support them appropriately. Since then, the Foundation has pursued its mission of support for the immediate and longer-term needs of underprivileged communities in Northern Lebanon. We offer assistance to struggling families and individuals, without discrimination of religious and political beliefs, while giving priority to Lebanese families.

The Foundation works in close collaboration with the communities we serve. Our boots on the ground approach gives us intimate knowledge of the specific challenges faced by families allowing us to work alongside them with empathy and compassion, and to honour and respect their dignity.

Jouzour provides aid to needy families in Northern Lebanon along three pillars: access to healthcare and medicines, access to food and essential hygiene products, and access to education.

We focus on access to health for life or death situations such as surgeries, cancer treatments and critical illness. In doing so, we actively partner with local hospitals. For high cost surgeries, we mobilise our network of caring individuals so that we are able to reduce the burden on each participating donor to a reasonable amount in respect of any one surgery. Where possible, we seek to support chronically ill patients with the medicines they need over the long term.

With the help of local and foreign donors, we have succeeded in building a small inventory of home care equipment including hospital beds, wheelchairs, walkers, water mattresses, specialised toilet equipment and oxygen concentrators. They are lent for free to needy families and returned to us for redeployment when they are no longer needed. These items are difficult to source, and much in demand and we continue to welcome gifts of such equipment.
On access to food and essential hygiene, Jouzour FSB supports families with food hampers and increasingly with personal hygiene items including feminine hygiene products, baby diapers and adult incontinence products. Many young families can no longer afford diapers, and some families have resorted to severely rationing food. Jouzour tries to help with donations in money and in kind, and when possible, includes fresh produce purchased from small local or seasonal farmers and pickled goods and jams from small local producers.

We believe that every child should have the right to education. It is the necessary path towards breaking the cycle of social and economic exclusion. It is an important path towards nation building. Jouzour FSB supports families for schools and universities tuitions, though we mostly focus on the latter. As a priority, we assist students whose parents are no longer able to support studies in which they are already engaged. These students are often close to graduation and may not have other options. We support them past the finish line so they can move forward with their lives. In the same vein, we work to provide aid to a number of underserved schools in our region, including for example refurbishment of school buildings that have become insalubrious, and provision of essential equipment such as laptops, desks and chairs, and schoolbooks.

The communities in which we live face daunting challenges due to the compounded economic and social collapse in Lebanon. We are a small charity, and our scope is limited, but we will continue to do what we can to make a difference to the lives of as many people as possible. For every young person who completes their degree, a whole future lies ahead. For every family that receives incontinence products for their elderly, the burden of love is that little bit lighter. Every surgery we help finance offers hope for easier days ahead. That is why we are so profoundly grateful to each of our individual donors, many of whom are family and friends, for their trust in our integrity and impact, for their support and collaboration, and most importantly, for their compassion.
